Marc Papillon-Ferland and Elise Larouche’paths crossed during a recording session in 2008.
The young lady singer remembers well this decisive meeting that changed her life: « I was looking for a guitarist for my musical project. Some friends of mine told me “Oh we know a great musician, you need to meet him”. So Marc came to the studio and that day, I was recording a song entitled “Where are you butterfly?” _ At that time I used to write my lyrics in English. Marc Papillon got inside the room when I was pronouncing the word “butterfly”, what a coincidence ! ».
The Music industry was new for Eli, and even if she has always enjoyed writing stories, she started giving her music only few months ago. Concerning Marc, young musician and gifted composer, he was already a well-known figure of the music scene of Montréal. After many collaborations including Coeur de Pirate, Caracol, Maryse Letarte and Gaële, he plays piano as well as violin, mandolin or bass.
Even if they had two completely different experiences, the symbiosis immediately operated between them and they decided to gather their talents to form “Eli et Papillon”. The duo created a fresh and refined pop, elegant and simple, composed of dreamy pianos, homemade melodies and Eli’s soft voice.
In 2010, the first demos of Eli et Papillon seduced music lovers from all over the world : web radios, universities and associations offered them their support. Their covers of international artists such as Bon Iver, Coldplay and Britney Spears broadcasted on YouTube created the buzz on the Internet.
The following year, Papillon came with Eli for her first shows. The beginning was not simple for her. She’s now laughing when she thinks about one of her first concert : « In a tiny restaurant, I spent the whole night behind a plant because I was to shy !». The duo multiplies their performances in coffee shops before getting selected for the 25th edition of the festivals “Coup de coeur francophone” and “Vue sur la relève” in Montréal.
Eli et Papillon released their 1st album in may 2012. In October 2015, Eli et Papillon presents Colorythmie. A new album, more energetic and pop-electro keeping the freshness of the beginning.
