Jean Massicotte

Jean Massicotte has been composing, arranging, and producing music since 1997. Early in his career, Jean was a sound designer and sound artistic director at Ubisoft before moving on to composing,  mainly for film and TV series, all the while producing albums for some of the most influencial artists in Quebec history: Lhasa de Sela, Patrick Watson, Jean Leloup, Pierre Lapointe and more. Antigone, one of his latest works, won Best Canadian Feature Film at TIFF and was chosen to represent Canada at the 93th Oscars.

“The Secret Order” to premiere at FICFA 2022! Music by Jean Massicotte

“The Secret Order”, an ONF-produced documentary directed by Phil Comeau and scored by Jean Massicotte, will premiere at FICFA 2022 November 14! The documentary explores “L’Ordre de Jacques Cartier”, a powerful lobby which served French Canadians and Acadians interests from 1926 to 1965, and of which Phil Comeau’s father was a member.

Doubleheader unveils its debut album “Slim Wall”

On November 20th, Doubleheader (Arthur Comeau, Jean Massicotte) presents Sim Wall, a 10-track debut album with an evocative title, which puts aside any genre or language constraint to explore new sonic territories. The resulting musical offer is both unique and accessible. On Sim Wall, the duo’s beatmaking and creative soundtwisting are brought to the next level by the stellar vocal performances of several cream-of-the-crop Canadian artists, including Dominique Fils-Aimé, AfrotroniX, Djely Tapa, Samito, as well as up-and-coming artists EIHDZ, Quenton Hatfield and Maya Kuroki (TEKE TEKE).

Doubleheader sparked from the frontal collision between musician-producer-rapper Arthur Comeau (ex Radio Radio, aka Nom de Plume) and multi-instrumentalist, producer and arranger Jean Massicotte (Patrick Watson, Jean Leloup, Lhasa, Arthur H and Alejandra Ribera amongst others). The power duo presents their debut single on June 5th, the space disco track “Diamond Flake feat. Dominique Fils-Aimé”

Antigone nominated for 8 IRIS awards, including best original soundtrack

The excellent film Antigone, directed by Sophie Desraspe, is nominated for 8 IRIS awards: best original soundtrack for Jean Massicotte & Jad Orphée Chami, best direction and best scenario for Sophie Desraspe, best editing, best role distribution, revelation of the year for Nahéma Ricci, and the movie that shined the most outside Quebec! THe winners will be unveiled during the June 7th Gala.

“Antigone” awarded best canadian feature film at TIFF!

The feature film by Sophie Deraspe is a contemporary adaptation of the tragedy by Sophocles. Jury remarks: “Antigone stands out on its own as an electrifying piece of cinema. Tackling with vigour contemporary realities of immigration in Canada through the framework of Greek tragedy, Deraspe created magnificent onscreen humanism.” The film is produced by ACPAV and its music produced and arranged by the talented Jean Massicotte and Jad Orphée Chami.
